Update on Eye on the Triangle!

We’ve been hard at work getting caught up on some things we’ve been putting off for a while now. You can now find all of our Podcasts online under the “Listen” link right here on the website! Our Valentine’s Day show was a big success, and as Spring Break approaches, we’re doing our best to make sure we’ll be back to bring you the news once school is back in session. Included in this week’s show was a discussion on the national deficit, coverage of the N.C. State Student Secular Alliance, and a little bit about the NCSU Memes that have been making the rounds on campus.

EOT84 NCSU Memes 2/21/12

The Deficit – It seems that lately nothing in government can get done without a discussion about the deficit.  But what does all the rhetoric actually mean?  Here’s Will with a report.

Secular Student Alliance – NC State is an enormous school with many different kinds of thoughts and beliefs on campus.  Mark recently sat down with members of the Secular Student Alliance to delve a little bit into what exactly they do or do not believe.

NCSU Memes –  If you have a Facebook and you currently attend NC State, you’ve probably seen them: the funny pictures with funny captions detailing some aspect of life on campus.  But how did these NCSU memes pop up overnight?  Our new contributor Grant is here to shed some light on this latest phenomenon.

Long Distance Relationships – Deondre’ has some thoughts about something he has personal experience with.  Anyone who’s ever been in a long distance relationship might be able to relate to this piece.

GOP Family Feud – Many people today liken the current GOP primary race to something of a circus, or a game show.  Mark believes they are the same in everything but name.

EOT83 Biochemistry of Love 2/14/12

Valentine’s Day Soundbytes – Whether you love it or hate it, it seems everybody has an opinion on Valentine’s Day.  New contributor Rebekah recently went out in search of what NC State students have on their minds.

Biochemistry of Love – We all know that love will drive you mad, but there is actually a whole science devoted to figuring out just why it is love makes people do the crazy things they do.  Here to shed some light on the science behind love is Mark.

10 Reasons Why It’s Great to be Single – As Jake cites some reasons to be single, a lively discussion is held regarding love and life between the hosts and some contributors.

Political Identities – In today’s heated political arena, it seems that everyone leans hard left or hard right, and for many, that’s all that matters.  Deondre’ thinks that maybe that’s not all that matters.

Ron Paul – Ron Paul is a seen as a very controversial and divisive figure in GOP politics.  Many call him a fringe candidate, and don’t believe he will be successful in his run fo rthe nomination.  Our new contributor Andrew, however, thinks we shouldn’t count him out just yet.

Slaughterhouse Five – In an excerpt from his novel, Kurt Vonnegut reads about what war should be like in a more peaceful world.

Racing the Cure – Rebekah brings some information about this upcoming event, a local benefit concert featuring many local artists.

EOT82 Vote Against 2/7/12

Vote Against/Amendment 1 – California is not the only state currently trying to make same sex marriage unconstitutional.  Amendment one would make same sex marriage unconstitutional right here in North Carolina. We bring you a discussion with two members of the Vote Against project to find out a little more about this controversial bill.

Darwin Day – Ever since Charles Darwin first proposed his theory of evolution over fifty years ago, this historical figure has been shrouded in controversy.  As Darwin Day approaches, Mark Herring has some thoughts.

Eye On The Triangle Interest Meeting

With a recent change in leadership at public affairs, we have been working hard to ensure a smooth transition. We are currently looking for people interested in volunteering for the Public Affairs department and working for our weekly program Eye On The Triangle. There will be a WKNC interest meeting Tuesday, Jan. 10, and Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in Witherspoon 201. For more information, contact publicaffairs@wknc.org.

Spring 2012 DJ Training

WKNC 88.1 FM, the student-run radio station at North Carolina State University, offers volunteer on- and off-air positions to full-time N.C. State students with a 2.0 minimum grade point average. To qualify for an on-air position, you must first complete a six-week DJ training program and pass a written operator’s exam and demonstrative audio board test.

Anyone interested in becoming a WKNC DJ must attend one of our two interest meetings. They will be Tuesday, Jan. 10 and Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The location will be 201 Witherspoon. You only need to attend one of the two interest meetings. During the interest meeting, we will provide an overview of WKNC and its role on campus and in the community. You will also receive an application, which must be completed and returned to the WKNC studios at 343 Witherspoon Student Center by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13. Individuals interested in electronic, hip-hop, heavy metal and public affairs are particularly encouraged to attend the interest meeting and apply for a spot in the WKNC training program.

After reviewing all applications, our general manager will contact you via email to notify you if you have been accepted into the WKNC training program. Decisions will be made by the general manager and program director, in consultation with the student board of directors.

The DJ training class will be held Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Feb. 7, Feb. 14, Feb. 21 and Feb. 28, 2012. The location will be 201 Witherspoon. If you cannot attend five of the six sessions or need to come late/leave early, please do not apply for the training program.
