Phian interviewed The Dapper Conspiracy last Thursday before they played at Tir Na Nog Irish Pub for Local Band Local Beer.
You can also hear three songs during the interview: Thicker and Richer, Serious Business and He’s Not Here. The band also gives a little bit of background, setting the scene for each song.
Three of the local acts that played WKNC’s Double Barrel Benefit 11 in February of this year brought their talent to Hopscotch Music Festival two weekends ago. One of these three was Durham-based folk duo Loamlands, comprised of Kym Register and Will Hackney of Midtown Dickens. These two released their debut EP Some Kind of Light in the fall of last year after recording in just three days. The two embarked on two consecutive tours this summer, first with indie pop artist Mirah and then with The Mountain Goats of Merge Records. After traversing the country from Seattle right back to our very own Kings Barcade, the two are back at home and working on some exciting new material.
Loamlands joined me on Friday, September 5th, during WKNC’s live broadcast from Hopscotch’s Wristband City for an interview before their performance at Lincoln Theater later that night. Check it out for adventurous stories from their tour(s) this summer, advice for new Hopscotch-goers, as well as Loamlands news!

A few hours before Boston rockers Krill played to a packed King’s Barcade at Hopscotch, they dropped by our live broadcast table for an interview.
They chatted about the Boston music scene, how it compares to the Triangle scene, whether or not it’s fair to compare music scenes, the new video for their song ‘Turd,’ and where their lyrics fit into the canon of the band Pile. They also divulged some details on their upcoming album, and the positive new direction Krill’s headed in.
For a taste of the future of Krill and the hottest eyewear fashions, look no further than this interview.

This Providence, Rhode Island band put on a Hopscotch show like no other. When you see a “punk band that doesn’t have to plug in” you know you’re in for something new and exciting. This 19 piece band consisting of brass and percussion instruments brought an obscene amount of energy to Kings Barcade for the very last performance of Hopscotch 2014. Never before have I seen a band perform on the dance floor and the audience dancing on the stage. Instead of taking a bow, the band marched down the stairs of Kings and out onto the streets of downtown. What Cheer? Brigade was not only one of the coolest shows I saw at Hopscotch 2014, but one of the best shows I’ve seen ever! Check out the podcast below if you’re interested in learning more about this high energy group.
While she may not be the most celebrated local artist in recent memory, Laura Reed may undoubtedly be one of the most successful. While she’s been recently calling Nashville her home, she recently returned to the Triangle and celebrated the release of her latest album The Awakening. But for the past three years, Reed has been working with a group of ridiculously well-known producers like Paul Worley (Dixie Chicks, Lady Antebellum) and Shannon Sanders (Robert Randolph, John Legend, India.Arie) who have helped translate her raw talent into a pristinely polished piece of music.
Bringing a soulful, blues-inspired take on the standard singer-songwriter antics, Laura Reed crafts an intensely passionate sound that feels as broad as it does personal. Throughout the hour Laura spoke at length about her songwriting process, the way working with producers can shape your musical output, and the reasoning for returning to your roots.
