Checking the Pulse of NC State Athletics

Football (6-3, 2-3 ACC)

The Wolfpack dominated conference opponent Boston College in Chestnut Hill last Saturday. The Pack became bowl eligible with their 24-8 victory, and they collected their second conference win of the year. The Eagles’ 28 rushing yards is the second fewest against NC State this season behind Old Dominion’s negative three yards. The Red and White’s rushing attack was shaky, however, as Dave Doeren and Matt Canada struggled to find a new back for the Wolfpack offense. Reggie Gallaspy led the way on the ground with 35 yards on five carries, but his touchdown run accounted for all of those yards.

NC State faces its toughest road test this Saturday against the Florida State Seminoles. Dalvin Cook provides a rushing attack unparalleled by any other back that State has seen this year, and Everett Golson, announced as FSU’s starting quarterback on Thursday, could give the Pack’s front seven trouble as a dual threat out of the back field. If the Wolfpack can keep the scoring down and limit their mistakes, they will have a shot to win on Saturday, but that is easier said than done against the Seminoles.

Men’s Soccer (8-6-3, 1-4-3 ACC)

After losing to Syracuse 2-0 in their first ACC tournament match last week, the Wolfpack Men’s Soccer team still waits to see if they will get an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. Ranked 33rd in the NCAA RPI poll, the Pack are in good shape to make the 48-team field, but a 1-4-3 conference record and 1-5-3 road record still have NC State sitting near the bubble.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball

Both Men’s and Women’s Basketball start off their seasons at PNC Arena tonight. NC State is hosting a doubleheader in which the Lady Wolfpack take on the Villanova Wildcats at 5 pm with the men’s team following with an 8 pm tip agains William & Mary.

Both squads won their only exhibition matches. Wes Moore and the women’s team dominated Wingate in a 72-37 triumph, and Cat Barber led the way against Cal State Los Angeles with 21 points in the Wolfpack’s 71-54 win.

Listen to “Pulse of the Pack” Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. on WKNC 88.1 FM, follow them on Twitter@pulseofthepack

Last Fridays On The Lawn for 2015

WKNC, students, and listeners bid farewell to Fridays On The Lawn for 2015. This past Friday, November 7, WKNC hosted Noah Rawlings of Sunshine Faces and The Mineral Girls. As the sun set, and the stringed lights twinkled, the two sets felt intimate, and romantic. There was a special connection to be felt between the audience and the bands.

Noah Rawlings of Sunshine Faces

Noah Rawlings of Sunshine Faces (above) played a solo set; he compared himself to playing without a band as something similar to Bob Dylan.

The Mineral Girls

The Mineral Girls dedicated their set to mid 2000’s teen pop star, and my personal idol, Hilary Duff.

The Mineral Girls

See you next year (2016) Fridays On The Lawn!
