If you have never listened to the 5 o’clock Shadow with DJs May Day and Spaceman Spiff, put it on today’s to-do list. After sitting down with Proof and Lonnie Walker in recent weeks, today’s special guests are I Was Totally Destroying It. The DBB6 alumni will be performing with North Elementary as part of WKNC’s Local Beer Local Band tonight at Tir Na Nog.

General coverage of local music happenings
Pink flag was first, as always they rocked hard. Pink Flag may well be the best Triangle area band to see live; I’ve never seen this band off their game, in fact they seem to be a little better every time I see them.
Whatever Brains played second, and dare I say they rocked too hard, so hard in fact, that I still can’t hear right.
I Was Totally Destroying It and North Elementary will be rocking out at Local Beer Local Band Night this Thursday, April 2nd! HELL YEA!
In case you don’t know, Local Beer Local Band is WKNC weekly event, every Thursday night 10pm, at Tir Na Nog, 218 South Blount Street in Raleigh.
Oh yeah, and did I mention that it’s FREE? Delicious local brew and the best local bands. What could be better to do on a Thursday night!?
See you out there!
Local indie rock band Luego and folk rock singer-songwriter Jeff Crawford will be playing at Local Beer Local Band this Thursday, March 19. For those who don’t know, Local Beer Local Band is WKNC’s and Tir Na Nog’s weekly fun night. Each Thursday night, at 10pm, we showcase great local bands and drink the best local brews. Mmm.. my mouth is salivating just thinking about some Foothills Rainbow Trout right now!! Tir Na Nog is located at 218 South Blount St., and it’s FREEEEEE to get in!
Definitely one of the bests things to do in Raleigh on a Thursday night, especially since it’s free.
Check out the ReverbNation player below for some Luego tracks!
Rich of The Pneurotics came into the Local Lunch on 3/12/09 for a quick interview, live performance, and debut of brand new material.
The Pneurotics played with Pink Flag, River City Ransom, and The Dry Heathens at The Brewery last night (3/12/09).
Tune in Thursday, March 12th at noon as DJ Murdoc interviews The Pneurotics on Local Lunch.
Chapel Hill based The Pneurotics, will be playing at The Brewery with River City Ransom, The Dry Heathens, and Pink Flag Thursday night at 8pm.
Look for Murdoc’s Local Music Picture Blog later this week for coverage of the event.
Lonnie Walker, the lo-fi twang-folk band who performed at Double Barrel Benefit #6, will be giving an in-studio interview on the 5 o’clock Shadow, hosted by DJs May Day and Spaceman Spiff. The Greenville/Raleigh-based band will be promoting their brand-new unreleased album and will also be headlining their show the same night for Local Beer Local Band night at Tir Na Nog Irish Pub and Restaurant off of 218 S. Blount Street in Raleigh.
Be sure to tune into the 88.1 between 5 and 6pm on Thursday to listen in. It should be awesome!
If you dig good music, good performance, good art, or if you have a pulse, you’d do well to check out WKNC’s Local Lunch Wednesday, 2/25, through Friday, 2/27. Right at the top of the 12:00 hour on each day, we’re airing each piece of a three-part serial of vocal enactment on top of The Never’s masterful album “Antarctica." This is merely a precursor to the event of interest, a theatrical performance of the concept album, released in 2006.
From the band’s website:
The Never has been touring for the last 3 years promoting “Antarctica, A Storybook Record,” a concept album and fully illustrated 50-page storybook. They are currently working to finish their new record to be released on Trekky Records in March, 2009. This event will be a culmination of both works. The Never is dedicated to the betterment of community through arts and music and has performed at schools/universities, libraries, theaters, and outdoor festivals over the last few years in order to achieve that.
Missed today’s part 1? You’re in luck: the performance will be aired in its entirety on the Local Beat Friday, which usually runs from 5:00-8:00. We will be preceded by NC State baseball, though, so tune in a little before 6:00 to catch the complete piece.
Where can you learn more, you ask? Head over to the Never’s website for more information. And, of course, keep it locked on the Local Lunch and the Local Beat.
Beginning tonight, N.C. State students needing a ride downtown for awesome WKNC festivities (and other stuff, if you must) will have one. The Technician newspaper has all the details, but please keep in mind the service is for State students ONLY.
There are three Wolfprowl bus stops downtown along the circulator route, with all the other stops on campus. Both the Wolfprowl and the circulator bus provide free transportation to students, allowing them to reach downtown safely and for free – all a student has to do is show his or her student ID, the Web site states. [Read more at TechnicianOnline.com]
The bus won’t quite get you to Tir Na Nog, so please check out the route to see your best drop-off options.
One of my favorite local bands, Hammer No More the Fingers, will be coming to WKNC on Wednesday, January 28 for an interview and live in-studio performance.
The Durham/Chapel Hill trio released a self-titled CD in 2007 and recently completed recording of a second album. HNMTF has recorded with the Sessions@KNC team and is known for its killer live performances around the Triangle. This spring they are traveling as far away as Missouri, Michigan, Illinois, and New York City. They are playing at the Tir Na Nog Irish Pub and Restaurant in Raleigh on Thursday, January 29 for Local Beer, Local Band night alongside Pattern is Movement.
Tune in from 6-7 pm on Wednesday, January 28 to hear more about their new release, and for a chance to hear some of their killer new tracks performed live in the studio!
