Oak City Move 8: Young Bull + Vacay
Dear hip-hop enthusiasts,
When it comes to hip-hop in the Triangle, Art of Cool Fest is one of the ultimate celebrations of the culture, and this year they have not fallen short of booking LEGENDARY artists to perform. Among the biggest names include Common, Rapsody, Kooley High, Just Blaze, JMSN, Pharoahe Monch, and others….. but perhaps the biggest name of all……. dun dun dun……
RAKIM!!!
Known as the greatest of all time to many of the 1980’s and 90’s heads, and certainly one of the most innovative and influential rappers to any rapper that has found success in lyricism-based hip-hop (90’s to today), Rakim is essentially hip-hop’s original lyricist.
I am excited to see him, for my favorite type of hip-hop is built upon multi-syllable rhymes and unorthodox flow, and he is unarguably the originator of both. If you are a fan of hip-hop (and perhaps are even a hip-hop artist yourself), this legendary act could very well give you insight and influential guidance on what it means to be hip-hop.
Rakim is performing Friday, April 28th at the Durham Armory, set to hit the stage at 11:55 pm.
See you all there!!!
