Women and girls in several places in Africa struggle to meet their hygienic needs on a regular basis.  We’ve touched on this problem in previous episodes of Eye on the Triangle, but it’s definitely a problem worth revisiting. Nick had the chance to speak with some people involved in a project that is making strides.

This week included a very special edition of Poetry Corner in which Selma read some work submitted by a listener who is a prisoner at Central Prison.  The pieces touch on his experiences with poverty, and they’re definitely worth a listen.

Here at NC State there are majors of all kinds for all types of people.  Our newest contributor, Mirtha, had the chance to speak with a student who has set up quite a fascinating combination of studies for himself.  Mirtha has the scoop.

Chief Terrence Parks is an aviation ordnanceman in the US Navy.  If you’re confused about what that means, stick around to hear what our contributor Michaela brought us this week.

Authors today carry on a legacy that has been a part of our society for thousands of years.  Here in the triangle, several authors are hard at work bringing the world new stories.  In a new series, Michaela speaks to a local author about her recent and upcoming works.

There’s a study abroad program here at NC State that takes you somewhere you may never have thought of going.  NC State alumnus and former Eye on the Triangle host Jake Langlois dropped by to give us a special report.  

NC State’s holiday break is coming up, but what happens to all of the campus buildings when everyone leaves?  Nick has the story.

EOT75 Missions of Mercy 11/15/11

Impromptu Musicians- Nick caught up with some students at N.C. State who spontaneously play their instruments around campus to find out more about what they do.

No Shave November-  If you’ve noticed an increase in facial hair on some of our male students recently, that’s probably because we are right in the middle of No Shave November.  Dave got the low-down on what’s going on.

Cub Scouts- The WKNC studio was host to some special visitors: a scout troop.  Chris has the story.

Bad Movies You’ve Gotta See- In the kickoff episode of this series, Jake reviews “The Car”, a 70s thriller that….. You’ve Gotta See!

Missions of Mercy Dental Clinic-  The Missions of Mercy Dental Clinic, a project started by the North Carolina Dental Society, travels around the state to deliver free care to those who can’t afford the luxury.  Twelve times a year, the M.O.M. sets up for the weekend to serve 400 to 600 patients.  Our contributor Mark was there this weekend as they worked to keep North Carolina residents’ teeth pearly white.

Poetry- The Windhover is N.C. State’s premier literary magazine and is available for free on campus.  Occasionally here at Eye on the Triangle., we try to meet some of the artists who make the magazine, and this week Dave interviewed poet Tim Reavis about some of his poetry that will be featured in this year’s publication.

Red Hat- In response to Red Hat’s announced move, Nick and Dave interview a Centennial Campus developer to get an idea about how the move will affect NC State University.

Poetry- Selma gathers local artists to share their poetry in Selma’s Poetry Corner.

Learning Languages- Nick and Dave talk to a linguist to find out what factors contribute to learning a language and its dialects.
