I went to see Obituary (again) at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC, a couple weeks ago. The show was absolutely insane!!! All the bands were really good, and the local bands set the bar for this show (you can hear them on The Saw’s Butcher Shop: The Bone Cruncher on Mondays from noon-1pm)! Shout out to my boys at Skateboard Marketing for hooking me up with the interview and “guest listing” me for the show. Obituary ALWAYSputs on a great show every time I see them. Their performance on stage and their energy is unbeatable. The Saw was crowdsurfing and stage diving the entire time (I have the bruises to prove it. RIP my elbow! lol).
This show was a family event because my parents went, too! For those of you who don’t know, Obituary is my dad’s all-time favorite band!! I actually introduced him to the band when they played in Greensboro a few months ago. They remembered him and they were ALL really bummed out when he didn’t stay to hang out with them. Kenny made a video for my dad saying that he “loved and missed” him and that he wants him to party with them next time!
Two of my best friends went with me to the show as well! You know Laura, aka DJ Beowvlf! She was the first Butcher’s Apprentice, and she has a very special place in my heart! She is my daughter and she will tell you this (go ahead, ask her). My friend Ellie also went with us to the show!! She is my concert buddy and we literally go to every show together! The Coven went and invaded Chapel Hill to hear some good ole death metal! The three of us were in the mosh pit, head banging, and dancing the entire time! We crowdsurfed and stage dived a lot.
I have never been to the Cat’s Cradle, and I really liked it! The entrance is at the back so if you go, make sure you walk to the back because the front is not the right way (I got lost and I was really confused). It is a decent sized venue, and it is like a combination of The Drunk Horse Pub in Fayetteville and The Blind Tiger in Greensboro.
Before the show, I had the honor of interviewing one of the founding members and rhythm guitarist of Obituary, Trevor Peres. The Saw’s apprentice, DJ Beowvlf, helped me out during the interview. You can click here to hear the audio!
