Concert Review: Rozey and Quadeca

On October 24th, I had the opportunity to visit the Motorco Music Hall in Durham, North Carolina, to see artists Rozey and Quadeca. Before this show, I was only really familiar with Quadeca (although I wouldn’t call myself a fan at that stage yet). The whole reason I went was because a friend had asked me to go.

As we got to the show, there was a line forming an hour early at the doors, not just VItickets, but regular general admission ticket holders as well. We got in line by a large tour bus out front of the venue and began our hour-long wait.

One of the coolest parts of the whole night happened right as we sat down on the curb. The bus was already a revolving door of crew members; however, as we sat down, Benjamin Lasky (Quadeca) came down the bus stairs. He was actually 10 feet from us in line; that was an awesome experience to start the night.

Once we had filed into the venue an hour later, we were absolutely blessed by one of the highest energy openers I have ever seen, Rozey.

From the first note, I was impressed; there was something about the way that the band carried itself that was electric. This show was right before the release of their latest EP, “Anything  Instead of Anything”, which is 100% worth a listen.

During the last few songs, the band had a full circle pit formed inside of Motorco and the crowd was MOSHING. Overall, Rozey was one of my favorite openers of this year by far.

Up next was the reason we had all bought our tickets, Quadeca.

Quadeca live was not an experience I was ready for in the slightest. I had heard some of his music before the show, and loved what I had heard, but it was only three or so songs.

The pure theatrics alone of the *Vanisher* flag being raised and the symbolism of the moon behind the stage created a purely immaculate vibe.

The music was a whole other experience entirely.

The show opened with three songs off of Quadeca’s latest album “Vanisher, Horizon Scraper,” of which the almost orchestral feeling was there in whole live, something that is rare in my opinion.

The best part of Quadeca’s set was the mix of music performed; despite the tour being for the “Vanisher, Horizon Scraper” album, he played songs from nearly every era of his discography. This made for an exciting and well-paced show.

Overall, I really enjoyed both artists and feel much more immersed in their music after seeing them both live.
