The Flannel Solution: Saturdays 5-6pm
"The best grunge music this side of the Space Needle."
The Flannel Solution is the Triangle's, and quite possibly the country's, only grunge music program. In case you lived under a rock during its early 1990's explosion, grunge is a form of gritty rock n' roll music that originated in Seattle during the late 80's. It was made famous by bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney and it is the father of the alterntaive rock and indie music we enjoy so much today. You can expect the heavy hitters like Nirvana and Soundgarden as well as more obscure artists like Mother Love Bone and the Melvins. Influencer groups like Led Zeppelin and influenced bands like the Foo Fighters are all fair game too.
We have lots of different things we do to the show to keep it lively. There's Nir-vember (a month long tribute to Seattle's favorite sons every November with double shots of Nirvana every show), a remembrance show where we honor the fallen musicians of grunge music by looking at their lives and listening to their music, and a truly epic Halloween show, just to name a few. Of course, that's all in addition to playing the best grunge music I can find. So if you're into grunge or want to hear what it's all about, check out the Flannel Solution every Saturday from 5 to 6pm on 88.1 WKNC.
Artists You'll Hear on the Show
Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Love Battery, Pond, Coffinbreak, L7, the Gits, the Melvins, Stone Temple Pilots, Tad, Silverchair, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, Hole, and many many more!
Just because I have a permanent residence every Saturday from 5 to 6pm doing "The Flannel Solution" does not mean you won't find DJ Switch elsewhere on WKNC. I'm a nomadic DJ and I must follow where the airwaves blow. Sometimes I might stay on after my show so I can hold down the punk rock fort for Doug Chaos on Saturdays (6 to 8pm) or other times I might be double-teamming Special K's Local Lunch slot on Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm. DJ Switch is internationally known and locally accepted!
