Pau Dones of Jarabe De Palo

Jarabe de Palo is a latin rock band that originated in Spain. I grew up listening to their hit songs La Flaca and Agua. It did not even occur to me that I would get to interview Pau Dones himself one day! He walked in with a smile on his face and a t-shirt with a cartoon tiger on it. Admittedly, that was a surprise but it just shows his personality. As we got ready for the interview we spoke a bit and I confessed that I was nervous. He told me “I’ve been doing this for 20 years, don’t worry take your time.”

Pau Dones, a singer songwriter, has been in this business for 20 years and from the way he speaks he is nowhere close to being done. The album La Flaca was released in 1996 and 18 years later, their new album Somos was released. In the interview we spoke of his inspirations and his motivations for music. We also spoke about their favorite moments. The most revealing moment was when I asked Pau Dones what his hobbies were. He answered that he likes to write music. He also pointed out the irony of a singer songwriter that as a career makes, writes, and performs music that spends his free time making even more music. To me that just shows the passion and dedication that he has to Jarabe de Palo and music as a whole.

EOT152 Diversity Education Week 10/21/14

Each Diversity Education Week event has a password that goes with it, and when people attend the event they get the password. If you go to the DEW website and enter the passwords for two events, you are entered into a drawing for some prizes. We here at Eye on the Triangle are happy to be a part of Diversity Education Week, and your listening to this program is not only very much appreciated by everyone who contributes to making this show possible, but it does count for having attended a Diversity Education Week event. That means that we do in fact have a code for our listeners who wish to get credit and maybe win some prizes. That code is shared with listeners during the course of this week’s show, so if you’re looking to get credit for an event, give the show a listen! Once you have the code, you can redeem the credit at the Diversity Education Week website.

Hank Smith and Lindsey Tims

Hank and Lindsey are two incredibly busy musicians that have a penchant for wide-reaching tunes, that’d explain their Flecktones tribute band alongside their work in The Morning After, the occasional Barefoot Manner show, and their new duo performances. Whether they’re churning out bluegrass iterations of Icelandic tunes or a sprawling yet simplistic arrangement of a Flecktone favorite, they’re always putting on clinicals, showing that two men with acoustic instruments can produce much more than meets the eye. Check out our full conversation with Hank and Lindsey including a few in-studio performances and a handful of tracks from The Morning After, Barefoot Manner and the duo’s most recent release Impulse.
