On a muggy evening in June, there really is no escape like being swept into the swampy and synthy sounds of a band like Twin Shadow. A laid-back crowd filed in out of the heat, but numbers were still small for what I consider to be a well-known band.
Opener Elliphant (featuring an M.I.A-esque singer and her dj) worked hard to get the crowd out of their sun-addled stupor, and by all consideration succeeded in impressing them. However, it was obvious that this group of spectators had one agenda, and after a nice long break between sets, lead singer George Lewis Jr., drummer, bassist, and synth emerge to a enthusiastic round of whoops and applause.
Immersed in a black and white kaleidoscope light-show, the band set straight to work. Starting with a couple lesser-known tracks, the group quickly got to their hit “5 Seconds,” after which it was apparent that the crowd was less than energetic, which in my opinion can kill the mood of any show. I will say, however, that I’ve never seen a band work so hard, each person was obviously giving it their all and that made all the difference. They took a cold room and worked it, which is the key. Slowly the bodies started moving and those die-hard fans panned their good vibes throughout the room, and a mass of bobbing heads and waving arms formed. We were in a good place, now. I left the concert quite satisfied with what I had heard and seen, and ready to wake up the next day and revisit the moment with a review of the album, as I’m sure many others did, as well.
All in all it was a great start to my personal summer concert series. Can’t ask for more than that.

EOT119 Cameron Village 6/11/13
Packapalooza is a giant family NC State tradition that is on the rise. Here is my interview with the former student body president about this year’s Packapalooza.
Cameron Village has a bit of hidden side to it. Do you know about the old Cameron Village?
Campus is abuzz right now with the sounds of heavy machinery and loud drilling. I sat down with transportation to figure the whats and whys of summer construction.

Summer Release Picks
2013 has proved to be an amazing year in music already, and with recent releases from the likes of Daft Punk, Club 8, Mount Kimbie, and Ryan Hemsworth (among others), it is safe to say that this summer in music will undoubtedly be a blessing to our iTunes. Here are a few of Triple Lindy’s top release picks for this summer.
Gold Panda – Half Of Where You Live
Release Date: June 11
Nearly three years after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album Lucky Shiner, Gold Panda returns with his second album Half Of Where You Live. Described as a “city album” by its creator, each track possesses a different aesthetic and reflects a different environment. The album reflects Gold Panda’s nomadic existence – you can see the influence of his travels in track titles like ‘Brazil’ and “Enoshima,” and in the oriental textures of “My Father In Hong Kong 1961” and “We Work Nights.” Gold Panda opts for a more considered approach, the music taking on harsher edges than his previous work, and an almost hauntological feel at times. Crucially, though, this new approach hasn’t compromised the producer’s creative freedom, and the album still flows with his trademark organic vibrancy. – via Ghostly

Diamond Version –
Release Date:
Diamond Version is a Mute Records-based collaboration between veteran experimental artists Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto) and Olaf Bender (Byetone), perhaps best known as two of the minds behind Germany’s Raster-Noton imprint. The duo draw their inspiration from “digital short message information culture"—that is, those incessant corporate slogans and sound bites that are never far from a modern consumer’s eyes and ears. This is the latest installment in Diamond Version’s series of EPs leading up to an album in summer 2013. Diamond Version is a project born out of a live situation – precision-tooled and impeccably sculpted club tracks, powered by the duo’s characteristic rhythms and flecked with absurdist humor.
