Greensboro, NC – August, 10th 2014 – Scene Sucker is excited to announce its first ever Suckfest, sponsored by WUAG 103.1 and Natty Greene’s Brewery. The two day music festival will take place Friday November 7th and Saturday November 8th at the Blind Tiger and will focus on punk-inspired music ranging from garage and indie rock to hardcore and metal. “The goal is to bring together a diverse group of like-minded people,” says organizer and Scene Sucker head Danni Brower. “It’s a celebration of the punk energy that actively engages the crowd and serves as a positive, cathartic experience for them.”
Night one features Baltimore’s Dope Body and Roomrunner, Charlotte’s Junior Astronomers, Boston’s Designer, Atlanta’s Wymyns Prysyn, Richmond’s Teen Death, Raleigh’s Whatever Brains, Chapel Hill’s Flesh Wounds, and locals Dumpster, Black Santa and Fever Dream; night two features Philadelphia’s Cop Problem, Atlanta’s Hawks, Charlotte’s Distrust, Nashville’s Yautja, Raleigh’s Empire, Winston Salem’s Rulebreaker, locals Irata, Holder’s Scar, Born Hollow and Totally Slow and more tba.
The mix of local, regional, and national acts is intentional says Brower. “It serves to connect Greensboro with a larger community,” she says, and “promotes the flow of energy and ideas” into and out of the city.
Scene Sucker is also working entirely with local sponsors. “It is vital that we all, as community members and local citizens, invest both in Greensboro’s creative scene and independent businesses. By working with local businesses, Suckfest is creating an opportunity for them to show their support for the local music scene as well as connecting them with a demographic that both appreciates that support and strives to ‘choose local.’” Brower is confident that these music fans will in turn support these businesses, and through this cycle, Suckfest will make a very real, positive impact on local commerce.
The name of the festival itself, Suckfest, while at a passing glance playful and cheeky, ties into Scene Sucker’s mission to encourage people to “suck up” as much of their local culture and be as engaged in the community as possible. Says Brower, “Suckfest is ultimately about sharing a good time with good people.”
