DJ Dragonfly’s February Favorites

February might be the shortest month of the year, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a fresh set of DJ Dragonfly’s Favorites.

With Mother Nature having a tough time deciding if we should have a wonderfully frigid and white Winter or a splendidly sunny and green Spring, I too find myself at a loss for the kind of music I prefer to listen to.

Typically my music tastes rotate pretty well with heavier distortion and angst in the colder months and more indie reverb feeling music in the warmer months.  This month, I think I have jumped around appropriately between the two feelings so without further ado, I present this month’s top picks.  Some of these songs have explicit content, so fair warning to everyone.

There’s an array of feelings in this month but I think I can identify the two main sources for my favorites.  The first would be from my last couple of sets as a DJ at WKNC.  My show, “The Swamp,” is on Sundays at 2 p.m. on HD-1, or on HD-2 if there’s a game playing on HD-1.  The gist of my show is that I play music based on the vibe of the day, whether that be the weather or my general mood.  Sometimes I do themed shows for holidays and special occasions.  The last few weeks have been super up and down with temperature and personal disposition so I have a good mix of alternative rock and indie.

The other reason is that I recently went to see Dexter and The Moonrocks and Cigarettes @ Sunset in Greenville at the end of February.  Of course that meant I had to load up on listening to their music before and after the show.  This happened to be my third time seeing Dexter and The Moonrocks and my second time seeing Cigarettes @ Sunset.  I had an incredible time and their music is amazing to listen to live.

I hope everyone enjoys this month’s selection.
