Under her alias Kitty Craft, Pamela Valfer crafts light, airy electronic works that create a truly ethereal and one-of-a-kind listening experience. Her discography explores a variety of different styles, ranging from trip-hop to slacker-rock, with electronic elements. Valfer has never failed to produce a piece that feels purely nostalgic. Currently, Valfer finds herself listening to a lot of jazz, making note of Pharoah Sanders’ album “Pharoah”, along with listening to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Vince Guaraldi during the winter.
“Lost Tapes”
“Lost Tapes”, released in 2020, comprises catchy, uplifting beats, airy background vocals, a plethora of intriguing samples, along with Valfer’s own vocals. Valfer explores the coming-of-age moments of transitioning into adulthood from one’s youth, to heartbreak, to bringing light to the confusion often felt during this period of life.
Personal Favorite: 17 is such a Drag
“Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch”
Released in 1998, “Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch” further leans into more trip-hop components. This album is purely euphoric; the instrumental components mixed with Valfer’s poetic lyricism are mesmerizing, almost putting you into a trance. This was actually my go-to study album my sophomore year.
Personal Favorite: Down For
“Bits + Bobs From The Flower Patch Vol. II”
“Bits + Bobs From The Flower Patch Vol. II” is Valfer’s most recent release, released just this past July. Each song has a defining auditory element, ranging from twinkling in Down in Flames, to a captivating electronic effect in Sway. The EP shares many similarities with Beats and Breaks from the Flower Patch, but it’s a bit slower-paced. Each piece has its own unique components, yet all tie into each other, like a sentimental, mismatched, patched quilt.
