DJ Dragonfly’s August Favorites

Summer is officially coming to a close.  I can’t speak for everyone but thank goodness.  As I have stated previously, Summer is by far not my favorite season.  This Summer in particular wasn’t pleasant.

Nevertheless, August has come and gone.  We are stepping into the colorful embrace of autumn and with that comes the monthly “DJ Dragonfly’s Favorites.”

This month I have admittedly been listening to a lot of the songs on my band’s setlist, both new and old.  We were unfortunately not able to practice much together over the past few months and so I’m refamiliarizing myself.

I feel like the favorites from this past month have been a bit all over the place.  While I didn’t have any other languages or songs from movies like the last few, I have some heavy and some very light songs flying around.  I have anything from Korn to Sixpence None The Richer.

I once again have a mix of less and more well known artists and songs.  Sometimes I am reminded that popular songs are popular for a reason.  I have songs like “Sultans of Swing” by Dire Straits alongside “Someone” by Dopamine.  The latter has been one I have been really listening to lately.  I heard it at my friend’s place on her daily discovery mix and immediately needed to add it to a playlist.  To me it almost sounds like a Smashing Pumpkins song in the intro due to the fuzzy, saturated guitar and melancholic key.  Then I feel it changes over to an alt rock feeling like The Strokes due to the choppy riffs.

There’s a certain joy I feel when I rediscover a song I haven’t listened to in a long time.  I recently rediscovered “Your Ex Said You Can’t Dance” by The Real Zebos.  I added that song to a playlist back in Spring of 2021 and didn’t really vibe with it too much at the time but enjoyed it nonetheless.  I found it again after a long time and I have been enjoying it so much more this time around.

I hope everyone enjoys this month’s wrap up.
