Music Format Descriptions at WKNC

Rock

Rock has evolved to a eclectic blend of music ranging from what should be considered true rock to hip hop. No longer do we single out a specific music genre, but its a mixture of independent music, independent hip hop, even electronic music. Rock is what you will hear during the week during the day and early evening hours.

Underground 88

Underground is WKNC's hip hop chop shop. Underground highlights the best in underground and up-and-coming talent as well as local talent.

Afterhours

Afterhours is the electronic format of WKNC. Though electronic is vague, it features music that is primarily derived from use of synthesizers and computer sequencers. The selection of music ranges from DJ to DJ because the diverse sounds range from organic sounding bossanova to deep drum 'n bass.

Geet Bazaar

(Sunday Mornings 10 am to 12 noon): join hosts Afroz Taj and John Caldwell for a wide variety of music from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and beyond, as well as Community Calendar, and listener requests and dedications. We take requests by telephone during the show, or by email any time (taj@unity.ncsu.edu). Tune in also for giveaway contests from local South Asian sponsors: win CDs, DVDs, Indian food and much more!

Sunday Night Lounge

Sometimes refered to as the "stoned sister of AfterHours", the Sunday Night Lounge surrounds you with the latest and greatest in downtempo ambient acid trip jazz blip hip hop psychedelic idm space dub. Yeah, I hope you can remember that. Every Sunday night starting at 10pm.
