We just released the new NC State Student Media App today!  We are really excited about this great new feature.  It is easy to use and looks incredible.  The app is available to download for free to both your Apple and Android devices.  This app gives you the ability to stream WKNC, check out recently played songs, and request songs easily from your mobile device!   It also features amazing content content from the Technician, the Agromeck, the Windhover, and the Nubian Message.  Be sure to download the app for another easy way to listen to WKNC.

It’s one of my favorite weeks of the fall semester – Shack-a-thon! Shack-a-thon is a week-long event, running from Monday, September 19 at 8:00am – September 23 at 5:00pm. Student organizations build a shack in NC State University‘s Brickyard and live in it for the remainder of the week, with the goal of raising money for Habitat for Humanity. Last year alone, more than $17,000 was raised.

WKNC has teamed up with the rest of Student Media to host the Student Media Bamboo Shack (you can even check in on foursquare!).  Constructed out of bamboo, zip ties, WKNC banners and biodegradable polyurethane, our shack is one of the most environmentally friendly shacks that has been built. Each organization came up with their own set of activities to fuel donations. Student Media, for Habitat donations, will be doing photoshoots (thanks Technician!), musical instrument lessons (guitar, accordion, harmonica and singing saw), bake sales and raffling off prize items. These prize items include gift cards, T-shirts and pair of tickets to see Widespread Panic this weekend. The drawings will be held Friday, September 23 at noon.

As the first week of school begins in just a few hours, on-campus organizations have been working to get their name out to new and old students alike. On Monday, August 16, WKNC and other facets of NCSU Student Media participated in Cates Crawl, one of many fun and informative events of Wolfpack Welcome Week. Thanks to many DJs and a swanky promotions team, the Student Media table was a hit of this yearly tradition down our beloved Cates Avenue. WKNC, The Technician, Nubian Message, Wolf TV, Agromeck, Windhover, and the up and coming photography club work under the umbrella of Student Media– entirely student run and entirely awesome ways to become involved at NC State. Students could partake in a tour of Student Media offices, or take advantage of the WKNC stickers, coozies, information about the aforementioned organizations, and even delicious freezie pops all while listening to the jams being pumped from our studio on the third floor of Witherspoon.
