SciFi, Fantasy, and Horror Soundtracks on Mystery Roach

This week’s show is going to be a great one! With the help of Jacob, another DJ at the station, the show will focus on the music of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror soundtracks from the 60s and 70s.
Jacob and I will be playing music and discussing the films. If you’d like us to look into a particular movie, please post a comment below. It’s not too late to get on the playlist!!
Some topics include Zardoz, a 1974 film whose bleak depiction of our future includes Sean Connery and organized human breeding. The Green Slime , a 1968 effort about the negative side of space exploration with a groovy main theme. Steve McQueen’s battles with a pulsing, man-eating, ever-growing ball of Jell-O in The Blob. We’ll play compositions by Bernard Herrmann, who has composed for such films as Psycho, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Fahrenheitit 451, several Ray Harryhausen films, and Taxi Driver. And Godzilla, a giant lizard who needs little elaboration.
These are only a few of the movies. Tune in this Saturday, February 21st from 8-10 am, and enjoy the show.

Awesome idea! You simply couldn’t do a show like this without the theme song from THE BLOB (original). And speaking of Godzilla, don’t forget the song from MOTHRA that those four-inch high twin girls sang. Hops in my pants and commence to dancin’, girls!

The Blob theme and Mothra’s theme were two of the first on my list. Those twin girls are The Peanuts, a Japanese duo, who, despite a prolific singing career, will go down in history as the two four-inch high twins who summoned Mothra.

forgot to slip you The Wicker Man soundtrack last night, which might be a blessing.
despite being an awesome Pschological Thriller, the soundtrack is heavily “trad.” but
I would have forced it on you anyway.

Oh my. I made the mistake of going to the wiki entry for Zardoz and caught a look at Sean Connery’s red Contra/WWF outfit. He musta got paid a bunch of money for that one.
Thanks for the show, I’m really enjoying it. It’s good background music for the urban alienation of tokyo life. The Mothra girls made me a little worried tho. I turned the sound way down, just in case Mothra’s lair is somewhere close.

Pygars New Wings was a great tune. I listened to it a second time yesterday. I kept expecting Tom Waits to chime in with vocals.
Elliot, volume might not help. Though Mothra is presumably living on Monster Island, she hers all.
Glad you were listening. I think the horror movie music might have been more appropriate in your time zone. (It feels more like late night music than early, sunny, Saturday morning music.)
