How to get your band's music on WKNC
WKNC attempts to play new music that isn't available anywhere else on the dial. One of the unique things about WKNC is that we have a 2 hour local music show on Fridays from 6pm - 8pm called Smash Hits. The entire show consists of local music.
Ok, so what's local? Well, we'll play anything from North Carolina, and we'll even play some stuff from upper SC and lower VA if time permits. Also, the style of music doesn't matter. We play it all, rock to techno.
In order to guarantee that something from your record/album will make it on the air, you need to mail us a CD (most preferred), dat, or even vinyl with your music on it. We can not play and do not accept tapes.
Submission of music does not guarantee that your music will be played on the air. Do not have your friends call the requests lines demanding to hear your music. It can take up to a month or more before your music is available for airplay. There is a tremendous amount of music that comes in seeking the attention of the director.
No un-airable material will be edited, so if all of your songs are unairable, none of them will be played.
Due to the tremedous amount of music received, you can help us out and yourself by telling us which tracks are unairable. This makes the reviewing process go quicker.
Nothing will be mailed back to you, so don't send us any originals! You will of course retain all the rights to your music/lyrics, but by mailing it to us, you are giving us permission to play it, use it in production work, etc. (We pay licensing fees each year that allows us to do this with all other music as well)
